‘Hart of Dixie,’ ‘The Messengers’ canceled officially by The CW

More news -It was only a matter of time before we got to this point with The CW, but now, it is finally here and also official. Today, reports surfaced that “Hart of Dixie” and “The Messengers” were both canceled after each trying to make something happen during the Friday-night lineup.

Can we say that we are really that surprised by either exit? Not so much. For “Hart of Dixie,” what we don’t quite understand was why in the world the network lead us on with all of this “it’s not officially canceled” nonsense when they knew that they probably were not bringing it back. Maybe they were waiting to see what the ratings for some of the other shows on the network were going to be; that is, at least for now, the only possible explanation. As for “The Messengers” (whose cancellation was confirmed recently by BuzzFeed), this was just something that almost everybody knew was going to be coming at some point. It is a show that debuted to low ratings, and really did not have much of a chance coming on in the spring, especially when the network had some other shows that were all renewed already.

The obvious good thing here is that this does at least free up the casts to some other projects. Wilson Bethel will be appearing in this summer’s “The Astronaut Wives’ Club,” and we imagine that we will be seeing Scott Porter and the rest of the cast getting some other great TV roles in the near future.

This is proving to be a big day for The CW, given that they have decided on their full programming slate for the new year. They also renewed “iZombie” on Wednesday.
