‘Chicago PD’ season 2, episode 21 review: Did Voight go too far?

Chicago PD -Did “Chicago PD” deliver another strong episode tonight? Coming off of the epic crossover last week, this was a chance tonight in “There’s My Girl” to deliver something more isolated … but still powerful and painful in its own right.

We have to start here yet again with this: How in the world does Voight still have a job? This is a guy who has beaten many suspects during interrogation, and while his sort of tough-as-nails approach may at times approach, it’s also a little uncomfortable. Voight basically beat it out of a man tonight that he was responsible for killing two different women over the stretch of eight years. While justice was served, was it the right sort of justice in order to make it happen?

Just in case that was enough when it comes to Voight, who also shook things up, placed Burgess in Intelligence for the time being, and then bumped down Atwater to uniform after he made a mistake. This was a tough moment to close the episode, especially since it takes away from what would have probably been a happy moment for Burgess. This turned it into something entirely different.

After all of this, Voight also worked to ensure that Nadia had her proper memorial, and earlier in the episode, he did his best to make sure that Lindsay does not go down the wrong path while she is mourning her death. We’re not quite sure that he will be successful when it comes to that.

In the end, this was a huge Voight episode, and while at times his voice is a little too much for us (we cannot even understand the guy sometimes), it showed us every layer of the guy. Sometimes he’s sympathetic, but other times he’s terrifying. There are still times we cannot reconcile him. Grade: B-.
