‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12: Debbie Allen expands role

The future -Debbie Allen has already played Catherine Avery for many years on “Grey’s Anatomy,” and she has also directed many episodes. Now, she is getting ready to step into an even larger role on the Shonda Rhimes drama series.

According to a report coming in right now from Deadline, Allen is going to be an executive producer for the upcoming 12th season of the show. While it has not been renewed officially just yet, we would say that this is more or less a formality at this point that it is going to be happening. The ratings are still strong, and have really surged ever since the show killed off Patrick Dempsey. Granted, right now what we are experiencing is the hype surrounding that. We’ll have to wait and see whether or not this sustains now that the actor is actually gone.

Allen has become a rather notable name in TV, given all of the different hats that she wears here and the directing duties that she performed over on “Empire.” This deal locks her in to work even more with Rhimes on this series moving forward, and while she does have this promotion, she will still recur as Jackson’s mother, who also is a love interest for Richard Webber on the show.

The final episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” will be airing over the course of the next two Thursdays. Hopefully, we are going to have so much more in the way of news before they air. Stay tuned for some more of that in the near future.
