‘iZombie’ season 1, episode 9 review: Can Liv and Lowell stop Blaine?

izombieLast week on “iZombie” Liv was feeling a little weird about the fact that she and Lowell probably wouldn’t be together if they weren’t both zombies since they don’t have much else outside of that in common, but we think that she’s just looking for something to be wrong in the relationship and we don’t really know why she is self sabotaging. Maybe they might not be together if they weren’t zombies, but maybe they would’ve been, who is she to really know. All she does know is that, they have very strong chemistry and that romantic options are kind of slim pickings unless she’s going to date Blaine who’s a criminal or the Lieutenant who’s working for Blaine. What we are kind of excited about is the idea of Liv and Ravi hooking up (even though he’s sort of dating Peyton now), because he’s been bitten by the zombie rat… will he turn into a zombie?

Liv finds out what Blaine has been up to after eating some of Lowell’s “breakfast” which was Jerome’s brain. Lowell is on Blaine’s eating plan and she feels that he knew where the brains were coming from and chose to look the other way. Liv breaks things off with Lowell, but he tells her that he’s in love with her. He reveals that Blaine turned him into a zombie and then gave him no other choice but to take his product or starve, but Liv doesn’t care since he gets the same visions as she does and knows that the brains he’s eating are of young victims.

After getting bitten by the zombie rat, Ravi hasn’t noticed any change in himself, so he started asking Liv what some of her first symptoms were and she reveals that she knew right away, because of the desire for brains. He tells Liv what happened with the rat and that they’ve now learned that a human can’t be become a zombie from anything other then another human. Progress! Ravi suggests that if she hadn’t been working at the morgue that she may have ended up on Blaine’s plan like Lowell and looking the other way like he was if she became desperate enough and that she should be a little more understanding of Lowell’s position.

Lowell goes to Liv and tells her that he’s sorry and is way more understanding now that he went to the funeral of an English teacher, later dug him up and took their brains and it really affected him deeply as he really understands that they are eating people, enough that he wants to help Liv take down Blaine.  They find their way back into each other’s arms, but more then that they work together to come up with a plan to stop him… Liv wants to kill him. Lowell calls Blaine to come over and he accepts and with Liv still high on the brains of a sniper, she’s ready to take him out. In the end she freezes up and can’t do it, so Lowell decides to do it, but when he misses his chance, Lowell is killed by Blaine.

Major is really down the rabbit hole with the brain he saw in the car and now Liv realizes that he was on the right path with the Candyman, but he thinks he’s stealing brains as some sort of nutrient supplement and hasn’t gone down the zombie road yet. Major heads to the gym to see if he can find more information about eating brains as part of training and the Candyman overhears and comes to Major’s house to shut him up. Major shoots him three times, then calls Clive, but when Clive gets there, the body is gone and there’s no blood.

It was sad to see Lowell get killed since there’s no one that Liv can really open up to that fully understands what she’s going through, but on the other hand, seeing just how quick Blaine is makes him all the more scary as a villain. We are hoping that he’s going to make it to season 2, but things are really heating up now. Episode grade: B
