‘Person of Interest’ season 5: Renewal hopes, stories for Michael Emerson drama

Tonight, we are getting to the end of the story of “Person of Interest” this season … but only for the time being hopefully.

While the CBS crime series has not been officially renewed just yet going into Tuesday night’s season 4 finale, we figure that most signs are pointing towards it coming back. It is in syndication, it has a great case, and it is one of the few “crime” series that the network has that brings something at least slightly new to the table. It’s action-packed and contains so much more drama than we get on the majority of other procedurals out there. The ratings are also probably decent enough to justify it coming back.

To many at this point, the larger story may be why CBS is waiting so long to issue many of their bulk renewals. This is something that the network typically does in March or April, but for some reason they have stalled on it for an impossibly long time. Our feeling is that it will be confirmed prior to upfronts, that way scheduling is really the only thing that the network has to figure out at that point.

By the end of this season, let’s just hope that we have something that is at least satisfying in the event that the show doesn’t come back … but also still something resembling a nice cliffhanger to still entice the network to make a move. The only drama here to us when it comes to renewing the show is that we would not be shocked if it was moved to Fridays or another night to see if CBS can claim a greater stake of this timeslot. It feels like there is room for a larger hit right now here than what we are getting from any network.
