‘Supergirl’ spoilers: Latest early scoop on Melissa Benoist series

What is happening with “Supergirl” at the moment? The CBS pilot is complete, but whether or not it makes it onto the schedule is still another story. It has gone through the same rigorous process as many other pilots, but this one needs to be in some ways a home run in order to make it to the air. This is a really big risk for the network to take; they focus almost exclusively on crime or legal shows, and giving someone superpowers is a little bit different than the mold.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there was actually a time here when the series’ future, at least on CBS, was in doubt. There were rumors suggesting that the show could move to The CW, which is something that we actually said could be a good idea. It could be thrown into the same universe as “Arrow” and “The Flash,” and then not have the same ratings expectations as it would have there.

However, sources confirm that the Melissa Benoist series got a big stamp of approval from CBS programming head Nina Tassler, which is a major sign of hope for the show. Still, the larger mystery here is where to schedule it, given that this is a network that has many themed nights already and very few slots. Could you schedule it in the summer? Sure.

Our personal feeling here is that Sunday nights at 8:00 p.m. Eastern would be a great slot for it. “Once Upon a Time” is no longer a beast, and while there are NFL delays, it could be the sort of family series that brings people together at that time.
