‘So You Think You Can Dance’ video: First look at ‘Stage vs. Street’ season

So You Think You Can DanceFox is making some bold moves when it comes to this season of “So You Think You Can Dance,” and first and foremost it comes in the way of timeslot. The Nigel Lythgoe-judged competition will air on Mondays starting June 1, and we’re a little wary of airing a reality show against “The Bachelorette,” even if the two have audiences that are seemingly very different from each other.

What we do at least know from the sneak peek below is that it looks as though the addition of Jason Derulo and Paula Abdul as judges, coupled with the whole “Stage vs. Street” theme, is probably not going to make too huge of a difference to the fabric of the show. There will still be auditions, a Vegas Week, and then live shows. It will still once again be about the talented people who manage to move us with their dance moves.

The only part of this that remains somewhat a question mark to us is what happens with Paula and Jason in the live rounds. We obviously know that the former was great on “American Idol,” but her relationship with Simon Cowell was one of the reasons for that. As for Derulo, most of what we’ve seen from him is in short spurts. Sure, he has guest-judged before, but this is something new for him, and he is used to performing first and foremost.

This show’s never going to be a ratings phenomenon. The only thing that we can really hope for at this point is that it draws enough attention to stick around.
