Could Brian Williams return to NBC? ‘Weeks’ remain until decision

NBC -Earlier this year, almost anything that anyone could talk about was the present state of the NBC Nightly News and of Brian Williams, whose recounting of his time spent overseas was put into question to the point where conflicting statements were uncovered. Since that time, he has been put on a six-month unpaid suspension, and NBC News has worked tirelessly in an investigation to determine whether or not there are some other conflicting issues buried somewhere deep in the past.

Unfortunately, at the moment there is still no clear answer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it may still be weeks before an investigation is wrapped, and NBC is not necessarily trying to rush this along in an effort to get a decision out there before the upfront presentation arrives in the second week of May. Their priority is instead around trying to just get this right.

What we know is that the network does not seem to be overly concerned about the slightly-lower ratings for the Nightly News as of late with Lester Holt on the air, and we’d be shocked if Williams returns unless there is absolute certainty that he can be a trusted voice on news broadcasts again. The last thing that they want is egg on their face, and one of the appeals right now to keeping Holt may just be the lack of real drama taking place at the division.

As a whole, it still feels like there is enough drama going on here behind the scenes for someone to make a primetime drama series all about it.
