‘Ink Master’ season 3, episode 2 review: Did Mike’s mystical powers save him from elimination?

Now that the premiere is behind us we can jump into the meat of the competition. Tatu Baby is back on this season of “Ink Master” and while she may have first hand working knowledge of how the competition works to her advantage, there are some seriously solid artists here this season that are going to give her a run for her money.

The name of the game this week is precision and the flash challenge will have the artists working in teams of three to complete the task. The groups will design then create a custom grill for a car that will show off their skills in precision. While everyone had a fairly good showing this week, the clear winners were Joey, James and Jackie.

Going into the elimination challenge, the artists had to tattoo realistic medical anatomical tattoos, which is something that we’ve seen Tatu Baby struggle with in the past. We were happily surprised to see Tatu Baby get through this without ending up at the bottom of the pack, but unfortunately Chris, Madison and Mystical Mike were all in trouble after the judges saw their tattoos. The human canvas jury also thought Mike’s tattoo wasn’t that mystical and he went home over Chris and Madison.

It’s never easy to go home so early in the competition, but we had to agree that Mike just wasn’t going to stack up again the other artists this year. They have casted a very strong group of artists and we can already see that this is going to be a really difficult battle. Everyone wants that title and many have some serious chops to back up their claim. Episode grade: B
