Ratings: ‘Grimm,’ ‘The Amazing Race’ down; ‘The Messengers’ has weak start

The latest -What was The CW thinking premiering a new show like “The Messengers” on Friday night? We feel like it is as simple as this: They’re pretty satisfied with the rest of their lineup, and they didn’t have a lot of room for this show. It’s not much of a vote of confidence to premiere it at this time, either; we don’t quite know why they didn’t just wait until summer to put the show on then, maybe in a block with “Beauty and the Beast.”

Anyway, this show premiered last night to a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is tied for the lost rating we’ve seen a scripted CW show post this season. “Reign” and “Hart of Dixie” have briefly fallen to this spot before, but not for a premiere. When you remember that premieres tend to shed audience leading into the second week, it already looks bad for this show. The only thing it has going for it is that expectations are low, so it will probably get a chance to air out at least the remainder of the season.

As for another show in danger, “The Amazing Race” scored a 1.1, and it can at least claim victory over a new episode of “Grimm” (1.0). By the way, we still completely hate the idea of this show airing at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. Maybe it would not be doing a lot better an hour later, but it has shown already that it performs more solidly there. Luckily, it’s already been renewed and there is no real reason to worry.

As per usual “Shark Tank” (1.5) won the night, but even its rating was down somewhat compared to what we’ve seen from it in the past.
