‘Community’ season 6, episode 7 preview: Annie and Abed workshop handshakes
As we said in our most-recent “Community” review, we do feel like the comedy is at present in a little bit of a slump. We’re really missing Donald Glover all of a sudden, and the past two installments in particular have felt like they were built off of really great ideas, but for some reason could not last the entirety of the episode.
Will the next one be different? We have a promo for Tuesday night’s installment below, and strangely one of the reasons we are hopeful here is because it comes across as so … strange. We have no idea what is going on after watching this, but it seems ambitious. After all, the story seems to revolve around Britta joining some sort of covert marketing group, and whenever “Community” does anything undercover, you can color us intrigued. Bonus points for the fact that this is Britta, and we don’t think that she possesses any capability at all to carry a secret.
As for another part of this episode, apparently Abed and Annie are going to be teaming up with one very simple goal in mind: Trying to devise a new handshake. This is something that Troy and Abed famously had, and we understand the show wanting to bring that back.
If they had done this story a season ago, we probably would have come on here and complained that they are just trying to rehash everything that Glover did with Danny Pudi on the show. However, in waiting for so long they’ve given an appropriate amount of distance, which makes us for the most part interested in how this could go.

This season (with a couple of exceptions) feels like season 4 again. The writing isn’t crisp, the directing has been dull, and the new characters feel forced. I think the show has bled too many actors recently, and I suspect that Harmon has lost interest. His zany and attentive touch seems to be missing in most of this year’s episodes. I’ve lost interest, and resort to watching the first 3 seasons to get my fix now.
