‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2, episode 17 review: Did Skye learn the truth?

Well, “Agents of SHIELD” did not waste a whole lot of time at all letting Skye know the truth about who her mother really is. With that being said, they also still now that there is another way to keep a secret.

Skye did learn who her mother was over the course of “Melinda,” which was a big moment for her in trying to understand just why she is so special. She had an extremely awkward dinner, learned her exact age, and even figured out that she was born on July 2. After spending so much time completely in the dark. she started to have an opportunity to truly learn a thing or two about the truth. Refreshing? Certainly, but you have to also recognize a certain element of fear in here, as well. She has never been put in this situation, and is instead fearful of getting it all taken away.

Of course, the big twist is that Raina is clairvoyant, and her visions of the future are probably going to matter much more than anything related to Skye. Another shocker? Fitz figuring out how to open Fury’s toolbox, which was no easy task given that he was locked in a bathroom at the time of figuring it out.

What is also so important about tonight’s episode? Finding out the full extent of Melinda’s backstory, and how so much of her difficult history is tied now to her nature as an awesome crime-fighter.

The weird thing about this episode is watching with the knowledge that “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” will probably change everything, and that there are not many episodes to go until that happens. It will be interesting to see how this show sets the stage. Grade: B+.
