Ratings: ‘Hawaii Five-0,’ ‘Blue Bloods’ season 5 lose ratings as renewal / cancellation time nears

CBS LogoCome this time next month, we are going to start to get a clearer picture as to whether or not some of your favorite shows are either renewed or canceled. Could either “Hawaii Five-0,” “Blue Bloods,” or “The Amazing Race” be sent packing by the end of sweeps? Let’s just say that we will be stunned if the entire lineup returns for next season.

While we will analyze them all individually more in the coming days, you should know that all three dropped in the ratings last week compared to the prior week before. For example, “The Amazing Race” (1.1) lost two tenths from last week, while the police dramas each lost a tenth. “Hawaii” scored a 1.1, while “Blue Bloods” managed to a 1.2.

These shows are all currently on a bubble that includes both the flagship “CSI” and its “Cyber” spin-off, plus other shows like “Stalker,” “Person of Interest,” and “Elementary.” We’re not counting “Battle Creek” in here because it is already as good as dead.

What “The Amazing Race” has going for it is that even with all of the international travel, it is probably still cheaper to make as a reality series and can be plugged just about anywhere. Meanwhile, “Blue Bloods” has a huge overall viewership, and “Elementary” is starting to get near syndication. We feel like “Stalker” and “CSI” are in big trouble, and “Hawaii Five-0” could be given that it does film in Hawaii (not always a cheap location) and its numbers have been the lowest consistently of the long-running dramas.
