‘Big Brother Canada 3’ live feed spoilers: Sarah’s ‘fainting spell’ and reaction to reaction

Sarah -There is not too much of note happening at the moment on the “Big Brother Canada 3” live feeds, and that has been a recurring theme. We feel like the reaction to the first two seasons was somewhat positive, but we feel at the moment like the internet is turning a little on the show this time around.

Why is that? We cannot really blame this solely on the lack of live feeds. The first two seasons had lengthy outages, as well, and they’ve never been anywhere near as 24/7 as the feeds are for the American show. You’re also not paying for them, so that doesn’t really bother us that much, even if there is a ton of stuff that seems to happen that would be great and super-compelling to watch live.

Instead, for us the problem is what we are actually seeing when the feeds are on. Big Brother seems seems almost at times like a defensive babysitter waiting to punish the houseguests at any moment. There has also been a notable lack of fun tasks (doing something sponsored by OxiClean does not count) that really puts the power in the players’ hands to deliver. That is what made the Marsha the Moose tasks in the first two seasons so eventful. To be fair, Sarah just had one where she pretended to do a fainting spell in order to win a TV show screening, so at least it is a fun character moment leading to some corporate synergy. We’re a little more okay with that.

To us, there are two reasons why the feeds have not been anywhere as entertaining this year so far as the past two seasons of “Big Brother Canada”:

1. Casting – Maybe expectations were too high after the past two years were through the roof, and the personalities were so big. We love that they cast so many fans, but at the same time many fans use the same strategy of laying low and coming alive in the last several weeks in the game. Nobody’s sticking their neck out. Last year we had such glorious entertainers as Paul, Adel, Sabrina, and Arlie. We feel like the contrast between some of them and Jon / Neda helped us enjoy all of them more than we would otherwise.

2. Where’s the booze? – Let’s be honest: Part of the fun of watching the live feeds is for the trainwreck of it all. We’re not saying that everyone should be boozed up all the time, but why not give them more of an option to do so? Parties were a blast to watch the first two seasons, but save for a few occasions where a small dose of alcohol was passed around, this season has been pretty dry. It’s a strategy show, but sometimes it’s also a silly show.

In the end, balance is the one thing that you hope for between great strategy and also crazy antics. Last season brought both, and there’s still time for this one to, as well. Here’s to hoping that they can figure this out.
