Fox developing new ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ TV movie
Can we explain why in the world Fox is making a new movie version of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”? Not really. However, we can at least tell you that it is definitely happening. According to reports, the network is developing a TV movie version to air for the upcoming 40th anniversary of the classic.
Kenny Ortega of “High School Musical” fame is on board to be the main choreographer, and original producer Lou Adler is also going to be on board with it, as well. While this will be a musical, it is not going to be a live one, which is one of the new trends that networks are trying to push for these days. The reason they are not going in this particular direction is because they know that there is only so much that can be done within the live medium. They want to ensure that there is enough time for costumes and the right effects to bring the project to life.
Now, there is one important question: Why? Given that there are countless people who still go and watch the movie at midnight every week in cinemas, you could just re-air the original with a few edits for TV and get good ratings. They must really think that even in spite of some initial outrage, this will be enough of a potential hit so that fans all over will give it a show. We feel like they might, provided that they get the right people on board.
Ultimately, though, the one thing we would tell them is good luck trying to find an adequate replacement for Tim Curry.
