‘Big Brother Canada 3’ interview: Graig Merritt on Johnny’s comments, bond with Bobby, more

Graig -Graig Merritt was the sort of guy who always had an opinion on “Big Brother Canada.” He was loud, he was outspoken, and he was also perceived as a physical threat. This is not a good combination of things for someone who wants to stay in the game for a while. He was taken down during the Head of Household reign of Brittnee, who has a “master plan” to destroy him by any means necessary.

For now, the baseball scout has been sent back to the dugout, but there is still a good chance that he could surface again and come back fighting thanks to the latest twist. We spoke with Graig today via a conference call; as a reminder, we were only able to ask three questions due to the first five twist, and they could not give Graig any new information.

One thing we’ll say is that we didn’t necessarily want to prompt Graig to talk about Johnny’s bully comments, but we’re pretty glad that he did so at the same time. While he may have been abrasive to some people, we’ve always hated when that word is thrown around at people who aren’t actually bullying anyone. It’s the sort of thing that sticks with you.

CarterMatt – you could go back in the house tomorrow, what’s the first thing you would do?

Graig Merritt – I would actually go hug it out with everyone. I’m bad with goodbyes, and I would have broken down in tears. I told Sarah, who I obviously don’t get a long with very well, I told her seconds before I left to give everyone a hug for me … I told Bobby also seconds before I left to explain it. It wasn’t that I was mad at them or hated them. As I said in my final speech I love them all, and I meant that from the heart. If I got back in the house, the first thing I would do is go hug everyone.

Was it especially hard being up on the block against fellow Chop Shop member Bobby?

It was hard. My personality against Bobby’s personality, it would have been a no-brainer in my mind who to evict. You know what I mean? Let alone the ten other housemates. I’m comfortable with who I am … I know my personality, I’m outspoken and emotional. I wear my emotions on my sleeve. I get all that and I own it, but I also love evolving, as well. I learned big lessons in that house. I learned patience, I learned that I’m going to have to trust more in the outside world.

It was hard being on the block with Bobby. I can’t wait to snowboard with Bobby; I’m going to take him to Whistler, BC. We’re going to kick some a**, we’re going to drink some beers, and we’re going to shred some snow this coming winter.

What was the most difficult moment in the house for you?

It was when Johnny called me a bully. I know for a fact that I didn’t bully anyone in there, so when he hit me with that it was a little difficult. It was hard to take. I know it was Johnny’s strategy. It really worked and it got the whole house against me, but that’s a very delicate, fragile word in today’s society, and for him to throw that at me with me being a baseball scout and a baseball coach [was hard]. I’ve been coaching baseball in British Columbia for the past ten years, and you can talk to any parent, any player for the past ten years and they will tell you I’m not a bully.

I coach just like Big Brother plays their game. They tear us down, they bring us up. As a coach I tear you down, and I bring you back up.
