Jon Stewart implores ‘Daily Show’ audience to give Trevor Noah chance

The Daily Show with Jon StewartRemember when Trevor Noah was a name few Americans had ever heard of? Well, that was not that long ago at all. The man is set to take over for Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show” whenever it is that Jon decides to host his final show, but he has already been the target of quite a few internet campaigns and criticisms. Why? Much of it dates back to many tweets he has made over the past few years, with some believing them to be either misogynistic or anti-Semitic.

Noah has already defended the jokes as merely bad ones, and has asked for some to judge him by the comic and person he is at present versus out-of-context jokes that he made on social media. Tonight, Stewart defended the new host of the franchise, reminding everyone that he had made his fair share of mistakes but managed to still earn the trust of the viewers:

“The only thing I would say is [that] you give [Noah] an opportunity to earn that trust and respect, because my experience with him is that he is an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny and smart individual. And, man, I think you give him that time and it’s going to be well worth it. I’m excited for where he’s going to take this thing.”

The truth here is that by the time the show does premiere, many of those comments may be more in the rear-view mirror and he will have a chance to build up his show from scratch into something hopefully entertaining. Will it be? We figure that it may struggle at times early, and it will only be over time where we start to see if there is really something special there.
