‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 spoilers: Could Coulson align with Ward again?
After everything that happened on season 1 of “Agents of SHIELD,” it is not altogether easy to envision a world where we could see Phil Coulson doing anything that involves working with Grant Ward ever again. However, there are specific circumstances where you really need any ally that you can possible find, and the battle between SHIELD and the Real SHIELD is one such circumstance. Both are dangerous, powerful organizations, and it could take a little bit of time to see what happens in the aftermath of their fighting.
We can at least tell you now that this is not going to be a flash-in-the-pan story that ends within the span of a week or two. It’s at least going to last until “The Frenemy of My Enemy,” April 21 episode that is the 18th of the season. Take a look at the just-released synopsis via ABC below, which makes it clear that there is a particularly large story ahead for Brett Dalton to play:
“A dangerous new alliance is formed as Coulson and Hunter turn to the last person anyone would expect – Grant Ward! As the war between S.H.I.E.L.D. factions continues, Skye and Lincoln will find themselves drawn into this conflict.”
Obviously, this also proves that Luke Mitchell is going to have a larger role still this season beyond his first episode as Lincoln, an Inhuman who could become a trainer-of-sorts to Skye. He will help to ensure that she can harness her powers correctly, and be an asset more so than a danger.

So this SHIELD civil war is going to be the main plot for the second half of the season then I guess. Could be interesting, but I was hoping that a real threat would arise soon to slap them both in the head and get them working together.

It’s a bit early to tell one way or another. These episode synopses are very vague.

Since Ward has become the “Spike” of the cast I envision a coming together not unlike that great Buffy season 2 finale “Becoming part 2” where Buffy teamed up with Spike in order to defeat Angelus and Drusilla.
Or they could take it the Angel series finale route and have Ward play the Lindsay McDonald role… and we all know how that ended for him. “Blam!”
It is gonna be SO good!
