Showtime not giving up on David Lynch yet after he leaves ‘Twin Peaks’

Showtime -

Is “Twin Peaks” really over just yet? There are two ways in which you can read the comments from David Lynch about him leaving the Showtime revival earlier today: As him definitely saying farewell to a project that he wanted to at one point be a part of, or him doing his best to angle to get what he wants in order to move forward. Maybe it is a strong negotiation ploy, and we are definitely not under the belief that this is completely over yet.

Regardless of your perspective on his exit, Showtime has issued a statement today basically saying that they are not done quite yet with pushing to make Lynch and Mark Frost the architects of their series, which still could be moving forward regardless:

“We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. SHOWTIME also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.”

The real reason that we would be stunned to not see this project move forward is simple: “Twin Peaks” is bar-none one of the most popular dramas in the history of TV, and while it may be polarizing, its fans are passionate about it. It seems like the idea of a revival is effectively a slam-dunk if everyone can get on the same page.

If you missed it, you can read Lynch’s statement here. He claims that his real sticking point is the money needed to make his vision into a reality. (He’s not talking about his own salary here.)
