‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Easter with Michael Keaton, Carly Rae Jepsen

SNL -This weekend’s “Saturday Night Live” is in many ways an unusual one. We don’t remember many episodes airing the night before Easter, and it feels like almost a risky move to do so. Even some relatively non-religious people attend church on Easter Sunday! Don’t you have a fear that a certain number of these people are not going to watch?

If NBC does feel that way, they are doing a very good job at the moment of not saying. Instead, what we have for you below is the latest promo featuring host Michael Keaton and Carly Rae Jepsen, the musical guest who is appearing on the show for the first time and better be prepared to perform “Call Me Maybe” for the rest of her life. Getting a chance to appear on the show this weekend may at least allow her a chance to perform something new, and we’re sure that she will welcome that opportunity with open arms. It would be unusual for her to perform on the show a song that is a couple of years old. Then again, Blake Shelton did choose to do that with “Boys ‘Round Here” back when he was the host.

We’re not so concerned with Keaton’s hosting abilities. He is game here, and the thing about his career is that it probably makes him very grateful. There were many years when he was an actor underneath the surface, still very talented by not getting roles in the mainstream. “Birdman” changed that for the better.
