‘Outlander’ episode 9 video: The story from Jamie Fraser’s side

Starz has been very kind when it comes to giving you assorted scoop on “Outlander” throughout the many months of its hiatus, and one of the valuable slices of information we have had a chance to learn is that this entire episode Saturday night is going to be based around Jamie Fraser. Sure, you are going to see a healthy dose of Claire in the hour as well, but this is the first chance that you really have to see events entirely from his point of view.

From a narrative standpoint, this is valuable for a variety of different reasons. We are going to have a real shot here to see whether or not Jamie is far more flawed than we know. From Claire’s perspective, this is a somewhat-idealized character, a good-looking man with a certain level of innocence still about him. What she doesn’t realize is what he has been through before they met.

You do not get a full sense of it in the new, extended preview for Saturday’s episode, either. This video mostly chooses to focus on a scene that tells you the story of episode 8 “Both Sides Now” from Jamie’s point of view, as it details what leads to him eventually rescuing Claire from the grasp of Black Jack Randall right as he is about to rape her. It’s a heroic scene on his part, but a word to the wise: Watch in a dark place. It is rather hard to see all of the finer details here, given that this is set at night in Scotland centuries ago. Hardly a world with good lighting. If this does not fill you with excitement for Saturday, we’re not sure what will.
