‘Criminal Minds’ season 10, episode 19 preview: ‘Beyond Borders’ and spin-off hopes
You waited for a few weeks in order to see tonight’s new episode of “Criminal Minds” entitled “Rock Creek Park.” Unfortunately, you are now going to be waiting for a little while longer to see the installment that is coming up after this.
When the show does return on Wednesday, April 8, one of the other twists that will be present here is that this is hardly going to be an ordinary episode, either. Instead, this is the backdoor pilot for “Beyond Borders,” a show starring Gary Sinise about a special division of the FBI who helps Americans who are involved with some dangerous situations overseas. Want to get a few other details now in terms of what to expect? Then just take a look at the attached synopsis below:
“When a family of four is abducted while on vacation in Barbados, the BAU is called to assist Unit Chief Jack Garrett (Sinise) and his International Unit on their investigation. Garrett and his unit, the FBI’s top division for handling cases involving Americans abroad, work jointly with Hotch and his team when they discover that this case matches one the BAU investigated last year in Florida.”
By the end of this episode, hopefully, we’re going to have a chance to learn a thing or two more about these new characters, and whether or not they constitute a foundation we would like to see on TV in the fall. Given how many other spin-off series and crime shows there are already out there, we feel like it is harder than ever to make one that sticks.

Actually, they did. They now have a completely different writing staff and showrunner, one who is well-versed in show business and a talented writer, a WAY more exciting story, as well as a much more believable cast for this spinoff, starring Emmy winner Gary Sinise (“Forest Gump;” “CSI:NY”), Anna Gunn (“Breaking Bad”) and Tyler James Williams (“The Walking Dead”) among others…
Rather than the previous spinoff attempt which felt desperate, rushed, and relying on Forest Whitaker’s name, this one actually was given a lot of thought and time and brain power, with a consultant who was actually an agent From the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit… Criminal Minds is currently bringing in higher ratings than any other CBS crime drama.
I’d say they’ve learned quite a lot, and my hopes are high for this episode, and the proposed spinoff, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. I’ll take it over the NCIS/CSI garbage any day.
