ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7 spoilers: Show boss on sticking to plans as contract talks loom
For a while this season, the contract situations of Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic on “Castle” were a lukewarm news item. Now, things are starting to come to a boil. The network upfronts are less than two months away, and when you consider that you really cannot have “Castle” without the two main characters, we figure that new contracts will have to be imminent before a renewal is announced.
Yesterday, we told you how Seamus Dever (who plays Detective Ryan on the show) still has yet to hear anything when it comes to contract discussions, and now, the current showrunner David Amann has also spoke out. He’s not really involved on that side of the coin, but he did tell TV Guide in a new interview that he is hopeful that everything will have a proper resolution in time:
“We’re hopeful that everything gets resolved … We have thought about a bunch [of] different scenarios, but our main obligation is just to our audience and delivering great shows. We’re just building the best end of the season that we can.”
Do we feel confident that everything is going to work out? Eventually, we do, but there are many different factors at play here. For example, you have the interest level of the cast, the amount of money that they want, and then the amount of money that the studio is willing and able to spend. Then, you also are going to have to consider the show’s ratings, and how many episodes all parties could want in another season. Ultimately, just remember here that a shortened final season is a possibility as much as anything else.
As soon as we do have some further news on the show’s future, we are going to have it for you here! Also, you can sign up now to score some other TV updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: ABC.)

All ABC has to do is take the deal the Fillion’s and Katic’s team have put out there and it’s done.

They’re not worth whatever it is they’re asking for. Whatever momentum they had fell into place with the Titanic after the season premiere. ABC is will probably cancel the show citing lowering ratings and cost. The ratings would be fine if the writers had a brain they didn’t share with the showrunner who can’t write a story that makes sense and doesn’t challenge the limits of intelligence
