‘House of Lies’ season 4, episode 10 review: Marty learns a hard truth
When you sell your soul to Denna, you better prepare for the consequences. This is something that Marty Kaan learned the hard way at the end of “House of Lies” Sunday night. He made a deal with her to ensure the takedown of Ellis Hightower, but unfortunately for him, he does not even seem to have control of his own company anymore.
At the end of the episode, we saw Denna make a huge move and basically sabotage a deal that Marty had made with a local burger chain, mostly for one simple reason: She figured out that what he wanted to do completely contradicted her own plan for him to bomb the business deal, that way she can make a flurry of additional cash with McDonald’s.
So while Marty’s current professional landscape is starting to crumble (and right when he was starting to get a few wins), his personal landscape is hardly better. After failing to stop his illegal handbag business at school, Roscoe was expelled from his spot at the prestigious academy. Meanwhile, his father’s girlfriend had an unwelcome surprise when Marty’s brother tried to lock lips with her. We all saw this coming, but still.
Meanwhile, Kelsey seemed to choose Clyde over Doug, and that bums us out, mostly because Doug has had more of that lovable loser vibe over the course of the series, and has not exactly been fully capable of winning over women on his own the majority of the time.
This episode was fun. Even though there was not a whole lot of Jeannie in it, we still found ourselves enjoying the majority of the story. Grade: B+.

Ii like Clyde better than Doug. I like Doug’s character as it fits into the show, but I don’t see him as a lovable loser. Certainly not lovable. Clyde, for all his prickliness, is. And he’s considerably more sincere than Doug.
