‘The Bastard Executioner’ video: See Kurt Sutter on first day of filming

FX -Clearly, FX has every intention of making “The Bastard Executioner” into their next hit show. How many new series do you see actually release an official video from the very first day of filming? The answer to that is next to none, unless you’re dealing with an adaptation or something with major connective tissue.

We suppose that there is a certain amount of tissue between this show and “Sons of Anarchy,” at least in the sense that both are creations of the mind of Kurt Sutter, and the both also are going to feature both him and Katey Sagal in important roles. (You can see the current cast for the series now at this link.) The title of the show also harkens to the brutality we saw at times on “Sons of Anarchy,” even here we are going back in time to a different century and to a different continent.

In this aforementioned video, you can see Sutter already in that setting in Wales, preparing for what should be a very eventful day. He also quips about the desperate need for the Welsh to have further vowels.

While we are very much intrigued / excited to see the series, patience will be a virtue here. We imagine that FX would like to use the series to fill that “Sons of Anarchy” void in the schedule, but there is no guarantee that this will actually happen this year. We’ll wait on pressing the party button (just invented that phrase) until a date is completely confirmed.

If nothing else, know that production is rolling firmly along, and we could have a chance to see here a medieval drama that is gritty and different from almost anything else on TV. So many period pieces tend to be almost delicate, and this could be a polar opposite.
