NBC’s ‘The Voice’: Adam Levine working on songwriting competition show
Just because we did not have enough singing shows on TV already, we apparently have something more to discuss right now when it comes to Adam Levine.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Maroon 5 frontman and coach on “The Voice” this season is collaborating with Dave Stewart on a show entitled “Songland,” which is apparently going to pull back the curtain and reveal some of the inner workings on the complicated songwriting industry and everything that goes on there. This is just a pilot at the moment for NBC, so there is not really a guarantee that this project will end up going anywhere in the end.
One thing that we do know with some certainty here is that songwriting is a tough sell to a very instant-gratification sort of audience, since it is a process that takes time. Bravo tried this years ago with their series “Platinum Hit,” which actually did have some very interesting elements to it. The problem with it was mostly just that watching people create music in a short amount of time was difficult, especially when you had so many different themes and personality clashes.
In the end, though, we are still happy to see Levine putting forth the effort to at least try something different. The genre does need to change and evolve in some way; ratings for “The Voice” are down, and everyone needs to start looking at what are the latest innovations that can really push this forward.
