‘Better Call Saul’ episode 8 preview: Back to elder law?

Better Call Saul season 1“Better Call Saul” tonight delivered an episode that was hugely important, mostly in that it showed why the Jimmy McGill character is probably never going to have that giant corner office that exists within his idealistic mind: He’s not really capable of being that good man all of the time.

Unfortunately, the promo that aired for next week’s new episode tonight in some ways felt like watching a promo for “Mad Men,” mostly due to the way that it leaped all over the place from one scene to the next. We saw more of Jimmy’s elder law practice, but we also saw him acting in a way that may get him tossed from the nursing home. Meanwhile, Mike returned to his old friend at the vet clinic, while the Kettlemans are still very much around, as well. There is a whole lot here that needs to be resolved.

What should make you worry, and also make Chuck worry to a certain extent, is the synopsis for this episode:

“Jimmy shows Chuck that he’s willing to do almost anything to win a case, even if it means getting his hands dirty.”

Is Slippin’ Jimmy going to throw Chuck into a backslide? It’s certainly possible, and we know here that something big has to happen in this relationship eventually. One way or another, there is probably a reason why Chuck is never mentioned in “Breaking Bad.” We just have to figure out what that reason ultimately is.
