ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4 spoilers: Olivia Pope’s mission in ‘Honor Thy Father’

We are not going to sit here and pretend that “Scandal” 4×18 is the first time that we have heard “Honor Thy Father” as an episode title before. It was the title for the recent “NCIS” season 11 finale, and while we’re sure that these episodes are going to be very different, there is probably one common thread between them: You are not likely to name your episode this unless you expect there to be a ton of emotion within it. Also, of course fathers will play an important role.

Despite what it may look like at first glance, this title does not confirm that you will be seeing more of Rowan in the near future. (ABC does not tend to release the guest cast for “Scandal” episodes.) Instead, what we have for you is the synopsis, which proves that there is a different father who Olivia must attend to:

“David tries to recruit former B613 agents to strengthen his case. Meanwhile, a congressman asks Olivia to help his father escape his looming death penalty.”

This episode seems to be continuing along a recurring theme for this season, and that is showing Olivia taking on some more individual missions. When you have 22 episodes a season, you pretty much have to get a little bit procedural from time to time. Otherwise, it ends up being a situation where you start to drive yourself up the wall trying to keep a serialized story together when there are many people working on different episodes at the same time.
