‘Mad Men’ season 7 video: Don Draper reminds us that it is not over yet
“Mad Men” has a knack for looking perpetually cool at all times, and for the latest proof of that, you don’t have to look any further than the latest promo courtesy of AMC. Thanks to the glitz and the gloss of AMC’s marketing team, you almost forget for a few moments that Don Draper is a terrible human being. Instead, you just end up enjoying the ride.
This promo is in true “Mad Men” style, mainly in that it does not give anything away. Stylistically, it does remind you that, to the surprise of no one, Don Draper will have the final say on this series. Will he day? It feels almost like a prophecy to some that the show will end with Don falling out of a window like he does in the theme song. We would personally never imagine Matthew Weiner to be so literal.
Instead, we would be rather shocked if the series chose to end in any way with killing Jon Hamm’s character. After watching such ends to Nucky Thompson, Walter White, and Jax Teller, it feels almost akin to an easy way out for Don. The real challenge will be watching him change and adapt to the world. He may be a cheater and a bad father at times, but he’s not a murderer. Death is not a sentence that should be paid unto him.
Regardless of what his fate is, we will learn it come April 5 when the first of the final seven episodes air on AMC.
