‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 17 preview: Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev’s rescue mission

Damon -While tonight’s new episode of “The Vampire Diaries” was to a great extent largely about Caroline and Stefan, next week’s “A Bird in a Gilded Cage” is going to shift that focus elsewhere. Specifically, we are talking here about how the story will move towards Bonnie, Damon, Elena, and a plan to move forward and try to figure out if Lily can actually be saved. Yes, it’s “The Vampire Diaries” meets “Doctor Who”! Interestingly, Ian Somerhalder is going to be doing something that he never had a chance to do during “Lost,” which was taking part in that whole time-travel storyline that was a huge component of season 5.

Of course, there is still plenty of story to tell for Candice Accola and Paul Wesley’s characters, as well. In case you have not seen it just yet, take a quick look at the synopsis below:

“With the help of Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Kai (guest star Chris Wood), Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) set forth a plan to rescue Damon’s mother Lily (guest star Annie Wersching), who is trapped in the 1903 prison world. Meanwhile, when Caroline’s (Candice Accola) plan for Stefan (Paul Wesley) backfires, she is left to pick up the pieces. Elsewhere, back at Whitmore College, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Alaric’s (Matt Davis) attempt to reel Caroline back in doesn’t quite go as planned when they realize they’re outmaneuvered. Lastly, an unexpected gift from Bonnie leaves Damon shaken to his core.”

This episode should be pretty great if it lives up to everything that it’s hyped up to be. Also, hooray for Enzo getting a cool story!
