‘Fashion Police’: Kathy Griffin speaks out on Giuliana Rancic controversy

Fashion Police -Kathy Griffin is not necessarily someone known for being quiet, but she has been relatively low-key ever since drama erupted on “Fashion Police” over some comments that Giuliana Rancic made about Zendaya’s red-carpet look at the Oscars. These were comments that angered both Zendaya and many others, which led ultimately to Rancic making an on-air apology. Kelly Osbourne eventually opted to quit the show, but it is not clear if that was due to this or a simple disinterest in being a part of the series anymore.

Griffin spoke out recently in the Chicago Sun-Times, and the first thing that she noted of interest is that “some dude wrote it for her” in regards to Rancic’s comment, which was repeated across numerous takes. Often, this does happen in the comedy world when you are trying to make jokes. Griffin admitted that she would have never said the joke, and she also passed along some advice for what Rancic should do in future situations:

“Don’t have anyone write you jokes or even suggest jokes for you on ‘Fashion Police.’ You have enough great insider gossip from actually being ON the red carpet. That’s what fans want to hear the next day. Just talk and be yourself.”

Ultimately, Griffin’s point here is probably just to be the fashion expert, and let any jokes come naturally as a result of that. Rancic is not a trained comedian, and neither is anyone else on the panel for that matter.

The one thing that we are mostly surprised about right now is that a fashion-themed talk show on E! continues to generate this sort of publicity.
