‘Empire’ season 2 spoilers: Oprah Winfrey courted; Lee Daniels will fight episode increase

While we have not reached the end of “Empire” season 1 just yet, there are already at least some preliminary thoughts and discussions out there about a second season. Ultimately, this just happens to be what happens when you have a show that is generating this much success. Discussions start early!

One of the most intriguing points that could come out of this relates to just how many episodes the second season really should be. After all, Fox is struggling right now when it comes to the numbers across the board, and this is their beacon of light. They may want more than twelve episodes. However, executive producer Lee Daniels, per The Hollywood Reporter, is ready to fight any sort of substantial increase in the episode count. What’s the reason for that? It’s likely as simple as him wanting to ensure that the quality is there. Also, we personally think that demand also plays a part. One of the reasons we feel like “The Walking Dead” kept such strong ratings is because there were only 16 episodes a season. That’s a big number, but down from the 22 that we have for most major network shows.

Also, Daniels is reportedly courting heavily Oprah Winfrey to appear on the show at some point in the future. He has many connections with her already, and she would add another dose of star power to the series.

With that being said, we don’t imagine “Empire” having many issues in the “drawing stars” department.
