‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 16 video: Execs on Ian Somerhalder’s directorial debut

Damon -Thursday night’s new episode of “The Vampire Diaries” is “The Downward Spiral,” and that could not be better reflected in what Caroline is going through after the death of her mother. It also happens to be the name of a Nine Inch Nails album, as pointed out in the new video below from The CW.

We’re not going to tell you that this particular video is the most revealing one in the world, mostly because there is a certain percentage of it that is just spent joking around about the episode’s director Ian Somerhalder. According to executive producers Julie Plec and Caroline Dries, Ian probably has some experience attending many a rave party in his day, and had a lot of fun preparing these scenes in particular. It also had to be fun just because it is such a different sort of scene than we’re used to on the show. It is really playing up the spontaneity of it all, and having a little bit of fun.

Of course, Caroline may lay somewhere within this crazy chaos, as she has gone almost completely off the rails since we saw her flip off that humanity switch. Stefan expresses some major regret over that in the video, saying that if he had just said or done a few things differently, they would probably be in a very different sort of situation now.

Well, we’ll have a chance on Thursday night to see just what this new reality for these characters is. For Caroline, we just hope that she’s not completely transformed for long into something else.
