‘House of Lies’ season 4, episode 8 review: The meltdown of the century
Sunday night’s “House of Lies” episode contains what is probably our favorite moment of the entire season, and the reasoning behind this admission is simple: To us, there are few things better in the world than watching someone have a massive meltdown for everyone to see.
This someone in this episode was Ellis Hightower, mostly after realizing that Marty Kaan managed to completely destroy his reputation in the public eye. Right when Ellis tried to take Marty’s money away, he got what was coming to him … but at the same time, Marty may have some trouble of his own coming up. Did he make a deal with the devil to expose him to the public? It’s at least possible.
We have to admit that other than Ellis’ meltdown, the best parts of the episode tonight were Clyde-based. After going through some hard times with his dad, he managed to convince Kelsey to sleep with him. The problem? She’s also slept with Doug, and that makes their dynamic now a million times more awkward than it ever as before. As it turns out, these two are going to be probably fighting for her moving forward. Of course, we do eventually want to see something more sensitive with Clyde and his dad at some point. We know that there is a warm soul in here somewhere, and we want to see him have a chance to show it eventually.
As a whole, we are enjoying this season of the show much more than we have the past two. It’s fun, complicated, and almost everything we wanted and then some. Grade: B.
