‘Call the Midwife’ season 4, episode 8 preview: Will Fred’s wedding plan hit the skids?

When “Call the Midwife” airs its final episode of season 4 next week, it appears like there is one person in particular who is going to be a bit of a party pooper: Fred’s daughter. Why? Despite him finally making the decision to get married rather than continuing to live out the rest of his life alone, she does not seem altogether approving of the union.

While we only saw a tiny glimpse of this in the preview for next week that aired following Sunday’s episode, it was enough to grab our attention. Maybe we are drawn to TV weddings, largely because there is something big that happens around them. Then again, not all of them are of the grand variety (see the Red Wedding on “Game of Thrones”).

In general, though, it appears that there are many decisions that will pervade through the entire hour, whether it be dealing with an unusual form of morning sickness, trying to figure out where to live, or how to you want to go about your day. Sometimes we’re frustrated by the lack of huge “moments” on the show, but it is one about life. Sometimes, life is not something that jumps out at you with revelation after revelation. There are quiet periods.

As a whole, be prepared for what should be the most important hour of “Call the Midwife” in weeks. They do have to give you something great here to keep you satisfied, given that it will be many more months until the show returns to the BBC with a Christmas Special.
