Ratings: ‘Hart of Dixie’ season 4 even; ‘The Amazing Race 26’ falls

Amazing Race -We know that CBS did almost everything that they could in order to revitalize this season of “The Amazing Race.” They introduced that new “blind date” twist, and they even gave the show the post-premiere spot following “Survivor.” These could have led to an increase in awareness, even if we didn’t particularly love the twist. We’re not insane as to realize that the show needed to do something, given that its ratings are lower than almost every other regularly-scheduled show on the network.

Unfortunately, the show Friday night was in as bad a position as it was in the fall, scoring a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. While it’s still possible that it will return (it has a devoted following, and it’s cheaper to make than most scripted shows), this is probably the most danger the show has been in since the early seasons when not enough people really knew about it. In between the twist and all the selfies, they may even be doing a few things that really annoy the fans.

Elsewhere on the night, “Hart of Dixie,” another show on the bubble, stayed steady with its 0.4 rating. The expectations on The CW are much lower, but we would still say for now that this is a toss-up for renewal at best. So many other shows are renewed, the finale was written as a possible series finale, and we know already that the network has a full slate of pilots, including the new “Arrow” / “Flash” spin-off series.

We’ll be tracking the ratings of both shows throughout the rest of the season, so keep coming back for further updates!
