Craig Ferguson returning to sitcoms; to star in ABC pilot

Craig Ferguson -Craig Ferguson already had been a part of one great TV show in “The Drew Carey Show.” Why not take on another? The difference about Craig’s return to TV this time, though, is that he is going to be the lead.

Sources confirm that the former host of “The Late Late Show” has signed on to star in “The King of 7B,” a story of a reclusive man with serious airs about him (Ferguson) who actually ventures outside, once he sees a woman he is convinced could be the love of his life. This pilot is for ABC, and on the surface, it sounds great. Right now, this network may actually be the most consistent one out there for comedies. They’ve produced two solid hits the past two years in “The Goldbergs” and “black-ish,” and to go along with that, “Fresh on the Boat” is faring modestly so far. Craig would be a big draw at this point to a scripted series; he has a following already, and an aforementioned history in sitcoms.

Of course, we will still have to wait until May in order to fully determine whether or not he is going to be a part of a hit here. Still, this is a great move for ABC’s pilot season.

For those wondering, though, our favorite pilot at the moment based on premise is Danny Pudi’s upcoming NBC project, where he plays a police officer who finds himself in a small town stuffed with paranormal activity. If both of these shows plus CBS’ “Super Clyde” make it to the air eventually, we imagine that we are going to be rather thrilled.
