‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 spoilers: Danai Gurira on Rick, Michonne’s future

Michonne -Who’s down for a little romance on “The Walking Dead” season 5? While the idea of Michonne and Rick together may be a little out of left field in that they haven’t shown much of a romantic connection, they have shown plenty of a personal connection. She is trying to get him to trust more, and open himself up to the world despite the heartache. Clearly, she cares about, and he also cares about her.

Whether or not this friendship evolves into something beyond that is still to be seen, but as Danai Gurira told TV Guide after last night’s complicated episode, the conflict that Michonne had with Andrew Lincoln’s character is going to make them much stronger in the end:

“We’ll have to see [if romance comes out of this]. They do have such a great, intimate friendship and it did grow. I think the real test of a relationship is when it’s in conflict. How do you get through that? They weren’t in massive conflict in this episode, but they were, at a moment or two, not on the same page. The beauty of the friendship is that they went through that journey in this episode and it definitely came out even stronger. It’s a fantastic thing that they have each other and they have that level of… love and support. Whatever happens, at the end of the day, they have a really fantastic connection.”

Maybe this could be a storyline for the show to look at a few years down the road, but we definitely do not see it as something that will be coming up soon. The show has too much else on its plate right now, and we did just get another romantic subplot with Aaron.
