‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 16 preview: Return date for Ian Somerhalder, cast

Given how eventful “The Vampire Diaries” has been as of late, it seems about right that we’d take a break right around now … even if we know that there are plenty out there who wish the show could just keep going and going forever. However, the TV season runs until May, and you have to give some of these actors a chance to actually film new episodes.

Therefore, you shouldn’t be too shocked at the moment to learn that you are not going to see Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, and the rest of the cast on the CW series on the air for a few weeks. Specifically, we will be back with “The Downward Spiral” (certainly an ominous title, no?) on Thursday, March 12. It’s a little bit of a wait, but hopefully it will be worth it. We’ve also got a wait until the network even releases an official synopsis, since they have not done that as of yet.

We do have a new promo for you below, and it should feel at least somewhat familiar to most of you. After all, one of the real themes of this upcoming story is getting a chance to see Caroline with her humanity switch off, which means this typically-sweet character is going to start to show off much more of her cutthroat side.

We’ll hopefully have some more news related to Caroline’s future on the show very soon, so our advice at present is very present: Stay tuned for a whole lot more big news!
