Is Whoopi Goldberg leaving ‘The View’? Don’t count on that yet…
Is “The View” about to get its equivalent of the Red Wedding from “Game of Thrones”? We’re starting to wonder that. There were rumors regarding Rosie Perez’s exit a while back, even though she ended up returning to the daytime talk show. Rosie O’Donnell ended up leaving this past week, mostly because she wants to spend some more time taking care of her children after separating from wife Michelle Rounds.
So is Whoopi Goldberg leaving, as well? It may be easy to think that, but initial thoughts can be deceiving. According to a new report from Deadline, Whoopi has been cast as the female lead in “Delores & Jermaine,” which revolves around a young man (comic Jermaine Fowler) who ends up moving in with his estranged grandmother (Goldberg). For the time being, this is just a pilot that would air on ABC.
While this may suggest that Whoopi is done, don’t count on that with 100% certainty at the moment. After all, this project is a multi-camera comedy, and it will film in New York City. Therefore, it is conceivable that she could do the two shows at the same time, since sitcom schedules are a little lighter. Sherri Shepherd and Kelly Ripa have also done it in the past with respective series.
What this show tells us right now above all else is that ABC is definitely not giving up on comedy right now. Interestingly, they may be a better position than most other networks at the moment. Their Wednesday night family block is solid, while NBC and to an extent CBS are struggling to figure things out.
