Is Patrick Jane quitting the FBI on the series finale of “The Mentalist”? While we know that he will at least be working on a new case or two over the course of the two hours airing Wednesday night, that does not even remotely mean that he will stay put there long-term.
As a matter of fact, the new sneak peek below gives us a sense that Jane has an exit strategy already sorted out to a certain degree. Simon Baker’s character shows Lisbon (Robin Tunney) what is new project is going to be, and that is refurbishing a cabin that seems to be on the show’s version of Walden Pond. Is Jane angling to become the first fake-psychic Property Brother? Probably not, but he seems to want to do a project now that is simple, and can show off more of his artistic side. After being so stressed out and focused on vengeance for so many years, he seems to be far more content now on sitting back and embracing a few more of the simple things.
The one problem with his plan here is that we’re not quite sure that this is what Lisbon wants out of her own future. She wants some sort of security, and part of that means that she knows that they are building towards a future. Will Jane be content with a cabin forever? What if he wants to run away again? These are questions that it makes sense she would have, and for the early stage of their relationship, she may have been so caught up in the fun of it all that it may have been harder to see some of these issues.
We’re going to be covering this series finale extensively tomorrow night, so you better believe that we are going to have full coverage of everything that happens.
