‘The Daily Show’: Jessica Williams not replacing Jon Stewart
We feel like it could be a long search to figure out the replacement for Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show,” but there is one thing that we know already: It will not be Jessica Williams.
Despite amassing a pretty decent amount of support online for her as a potential replacement for the longtime host, the correspondent cited her age and experience as reasons why she is not going to be taking that seat at the desk whenever Comedy Central does settle on a finale date. While we like Williams, this is probably for the best. She is very funny, but we don’t want to see her get a show before she feels she is completely ready for it. Imagine it like this: If she is very good now, imagine how great she will be five years from now? It’s like John Oliver. Imagine how much “Last Week Tonight” benefited from not only his lengthy stay on the show, but also his own time guest-hosting while Stewart was directing “Rosewater.”
While she may be out of the running, there are a list of contenders out there that include current correspondents Jason Jones and Samantha Bee, former late-night host Craig Ferguson, and popular comedians such as Bill Burr and Paul F. Thompkins. We feel like the network will probably take their time and also give their new host many guest shows to figure out how they want to properly do things.
Given that Stewart’s contract with the show is not going to be formally up until September, the network has a little bit of time to make their decision.
Do you think Williams is saying the right thing, even if you are disappointed? Share below in the comments.
