‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4 spoilers: Could Belle forgive Rumpelstiltskin?

If we were Belle at the moment on “Once Upon a Time,” there would be a rather large part of us thinking about whether or not we should just be taking off in the opposite direction when it comes to Rumpelstiltskin. While he may have at one point claimed to have loved you, the indications right now are there that he loves himself more. Do you really want to be with someone who seems so interested in conquering and holding power over others?

Unfortunately, sometimes you cannot help who you love, and there is a reason why so many ‘ship these two characters together. The chemistry is there, as is the love and the history. Sooner or later, though, Rumple is going to have to prove that he actually is worth loving to her, though … and he is also going to need to say sorry. This is something that executive producer Edward Kitsis comments on in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, as he explains just how complicated the situation for these two could be now that Rumple has departed Storybrooke, and the full extent of his lies are clear:

“That’s one of the things in the second half that we’re exploring, which is forgiveness,” executive producer Edward Kitsis tells me. “Can good people make a bad decision? Can bad people make a good decision? Can you come back from the bad decisions you made and how? What he did to Belle is really atrocious and that is not going to be solved with a mixed tape and flowers.”  

After all we’ve seen these characters go through, we’re invested in their journey. We just hope that it leads to an ending where Belle can actually feel comfortable and safe.
