‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 14: Caroline’s mom, Jeremy’s exit
Are the tears dry for you yet? We imagine that this will be a hard episode of “The Vampire Diaries” to move forward from for a long time, since it is the one that officially concluded the arc of Liz Forbes on the show.
We don’t think that this will be necessarily a big shock to anyone that this character passed away at the end of this episode. We’ve been building to it for some time, and the real purpose of drawing this out was ensuring that Caroline was ready to handle it emotionally. This was also a different sort of challenge for the show: Telling a story about death in a way that was actually human. It was not random and caused by a supernatural occurrence. There was a nice moment in here for Stefan / Caroline fans, but it’s almost hard to focus on that right now in the midst of the sadness.
The part of this episode that was saddening was seeing Jeremy depart without Bonnie coming back. There may be logic behind this move, but that doesn’t mean that we love it. We just didn’t get closure here! Maybe he will come back at some point, and we will really have that.
Ultimately, it is clear that this episode was a game-changer, and we’re not just talking about any one character. Caroline’s mother had a role in Mystic Falls as a whole, and almost every person in the community had a connection to her. We’ll see how this plays out in the weeks ahead.
