‘Call the Midwife’ season 4, episode 4: Victoria Yeates on Sister Winifred, inspirations
Tonight, “Call the Midwife” is upon us yet again with a new episode, and one that will hopefully share with us some further enlightenment into its particular era, and also how some of these women are coping with balancing their personal lives with everything going on within Nonnatus House.
Someone we have not discussed extensively on CarterMatt is Sister Winifred, so it is fun to have a little bit of behind-the-scenes insight about the character. Speaking tor the Radio Times, actress Victoria Yeates proclaims that she is actually more like Trixie in real life than her character, but she does not mind undergoing the transformation to play someone who looks very different than how she typically does when she is out and about in real life.
Yeates also tells the website that there is a certain level of gratitude being on this show, which features so many strong women in positions where they are constantly showcasing their power and sovereignty:
“It makes you feel really thankful. It makes you want to vote. The whole show is mainly women and it’s hardly ever that you are just surrounded by women on a TV show. It is so feminist. [But] it’s 2015 and that’s still rare now; I’m lucky to be part of that.”
For those wondering, Yeates is also signed already for a fifth season, which means there is no reason to worry about her departing. These sort of issues are probably more prominent for this show than any others, given how they are still finding themselves once again following the great Jessica Raine decision of last season.
