MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 5 spoilers: Ashley Rickards directing episode
It looks like for the final season of “Awkward,” Ashley Rickards is taking on another role to go along with series star: Director.
Rickards herself confirmed this news in a post on her Twitter (which, in turn, linked to her WhoSay page), and it will be the fifth one of the season. This is the second episode of the series that Rickards has taken on this role, having done it previously for the second episode of season 4. Directing is a huge responsibility, since it means that you have to be on set constantly, work in post-production, and do a variety of different duties in addition to your scenes. This is why only the most ambitious people put in the work in order to get the gig. This is not something that a studio hands to you just because you are famous and want it. You have to prove that you are capable of getting the job done.
It is for the reasons we just mentioned that most starts typically do not direct more than one episode a season for a show. Even full-time TV directors, unless you are talking about a sitcom like “How I Met Your Mother” (Pamela Fryman was that show’s longtime director), are only able to do so many a year. Typically they have an arsenal of directors that come back to round-robin, with a few new faces turning up here or there in between.
As for when you are going to have a chance to see Rickards’ episode and the rest of season 5, there is no confirmed return date for the show. Obviously, we are hoping that it will be coming back on the air at some point in the spring.
