‘Girls’ season 4, episode 4 preview: Hannah does herself no favors (again)
Last week, “Girls” was off of the air due to the Super Bowl, and with that, you had to wait a little bit longer to behold what we personally feel is set to be one of the more interesting episodes out there. After all, Hannah continues to find new and exciting ways to completely torpedo any possibility or hope that she once had in making friends.
In this new video sneak peek below, you can see Hannah in particular have some struggles when it comes to figuring out just how she wants to pass along a message to her other students, which she may feel is some sort of chance to have her worldview better expressed to them. Instead, it is probably going to only tick them off further.
There is a part of us that wondered something while watching this: Hannah is a character who we feel “Girls” obviously wants us to at least relate to in some way, even if she is not even remotely likable. She doesn’t try to understand the worldview of anyone else, and thinks mostly about herself. Yet, we cheer Sheldon Cooper on “The Big Bang Theory” despite these qualities, and we sometimes loathe Hannah for them.
What’s the different? We feel like much of it may come down to the tone of the show, and the feeling that Sheldon does have a sort of childlike whimsy and heart underneath. Hannah is ambitious, but she is missing out on making us really think that she cares about others, and shows no interest in changing.
Yet, we still watch, mostly because Hannah is almost a guide on how not to behave. Also, we find the stories of Marnie and Jessa to be mostly entertaining.
