Are ‘Galavant’ season 2, ‘Revenge’ season 5, ‘Resurrection’ season 3 renewal odds helped by DVR?
A few years ago, we would have told you that DVR ratings are almost completely useless when determining whether or not a show should be brought back for another season. Now, the game has changed. More and more people are checking out recordings of various shows, mostly because they also have more and more stuff on their plate.
So can the latest DVR figures end up helping some ABC shows that are definitely in danger? Well, the numbers we have now per TVbythenumbers for Sunday, January 18 may help to make things a little more complicated. Remember here that this was the night in which the shows aired against the AFC Championship Game.
“Galavant” – Our beloved musical comedy shot up from a 0.9 rating to a 1.5, a healthy increase of 67%. Our concern here is still that the rating is not exactly through the roof, and our bigger concern is that the show was just not on long enough for people to realize how good it is. With only eight episodes, we really do feel like a second season should happen, just to see if more viewers discover the series in the interim since it should be so easy to catch up on.
“Resurrection” – It improved here from a 0.8 rating to a 1.4, an even better increase of 75%. However, we’re not so confident about the future here. This is a show that already had two seasons, and the decline in quality during season 2 (which did improve near the end) does not lead us to think that it will get another chance.
“Revenge” – This show improved from a 0.9 to a 1.8, which is a stellar 100% increase. Why are all of these people recording the show? We’re sure that some of it was football, but not all of it. Maybe no one wants to stay up this late anymore. While this is a tossup still, we hope this convinces someone to at least give “Revenge” a shortened final season to close off the story.
We’ll have more updates on all of these series soon enough; for now, head over here to get some further TV scoop via our CarterMatt Newsletter! (Photo: ABC.)

I LOOOOVE revenge, but on a Sunday night…. I can’t stay up that late. I record it and watch before the rest of the house wakes up. People lost interest before this season… They need to see the new direction it’s going in. Not constant circles.

Clearly not, the DVR excuses have been used before time and again. ABC has plenty of shows that are actually doing well enough for the network.
