‘Criminal Minds’ season 10, episode 14 review: Reid tries to let go of Gideon
Last week’s episode of “Criminal Minds” was certainly a controversial one as the masterminds behind the show decided to kill of Jason Gideon. Actor Mandy Patinkin made it pretty clear that he was not going to be coming back to the show, but did “Criminal Minds” really need to kill him off? We loved this episode and thought that it was something that needed to happen for some of the characters to move on as well as fans that may have been praying to the TV gods every week that Patinkin would change his mind and return. After such a heavy episode that revolved around the main cast (which rarely happens) we are left wondering if the show is going to go back to giving us just another case of the week storyline tonight.
If you thought Gideon dying last week was the last we were really going to see/hear of him think again. Seems his ghost is still haunting Reid and he is having a hard time coping as he continues playing chess by himself. We are not too surprised by this since they seemed to have a pretty close relationship.
What we really liked was the fact that “Criminal Minds” allowed for the feelings over this death to continue on past the episode last week since many other procedural’s would’ve just wrapped it up in one episode and let that be enough for the characters (and the viewers), but Gideon was a pretty big character for the show – no matter how actor Mandy Patinkin left the show.
The case of the week wasn’t anything that special: A man tries to win the love of his wife who can’t let go of her dead husband who was a military hero, but we were happy to see the story with Reid trying to overcome his hurt over Gideon’s death. Episode grade: C+

I guess I’m in the minority, but I really hated the character Gideon. He was so full of himself. If he really missed his friends he would have given them a proper goodbye. I did feel sorry for the agents who lost a friend.
