Super Bowl XLIX: John Legend performs ‘America the Beautiful’
As it turns out, Idina Menzel was not the only famed singer with a chance to go out and perform during the Super Bowl on Sunday. She was joined by someone else well known for his killer voice in John Legend. The “Ordinary People” busted out a rendition of “America the Beautiful” before opening kickoff, and we imagine that it is going to get plenty of rave reviews.
Seriously, the only problem with this performance was that it was far too short. We know that he is extremely gifted, and he could probably work so much more magic with this song if he had a little more time (we can never get enough of him to be honest). We also love that he brought his piano out there to add to the wonder of it all. This has to be such a strange, surreal moment for him, but we couldn’t have been happier to see him as part of this event. This is the biggest audience that you can possibly perform for live, and they will mock and roast you relentlessly if you mess up.
One of the great things about Legend, though, is that he has this uncanny ability to become completely lost in almost anything that he sings. We cannot imagine there being a better way to watch the game begin. Whether or not the rest of the game is as interesting remains to be seen.
